DO I NEED A GP REFERRAL TO HAVE SESSIONS WITH YOU?
You don’t need a GP referral to see a clinical psychologist. However if you wish to access Medicare rebates you will need to speak to your GP and organize a signed referral + mental healthcare plan prior to session one. It is also helpful to have a medical professional, such as your GP, on your care team in order to provide you with support.
HOW LONG BEFORE I CAN BEGIN TO SEE SOME CHANGES?
Each individual is different. The first one to two sessions are usually an assessment. The practitioner will go through a whole set of questions going back as far as your early childhood, family history, relationships, friendships, work, substance use history before coming up with a collaborative treatment plan. Most clients require between 6- 10 sessions for short term work. Clients with more complex issues might need more then 10 sessions. Once you begin therapy it is important to be able to commit to regular sessions.
HOW MUCH WILL I RECEIVE BACK FROM MEDICARE?
As of 1st July 2024, the Medicare Rebate is $ 141.85 cents. You need to ensure your bank account is linked with Medicare to receive your rebate.
How many SESSIONS can i access UNDER MEDICARE PER YEAR?
You can access upto 10 Medicare Rebatable sessions in the calendar year.
DO YOU ACCEPT PRIVATE HEALTH INSURANCE?
If your medical insurance covers you for Psychology sessions, I will provide a receipt and you can claim the rebate through your health insurer. Please note you cannot use both Medicare and Private Health Insurance to fund a session. You have to chose one and let the practitioner know at the start of your session.
FAQs
WHAT IS THE SESSION FEE?
Session fees are $265.01, payable on the day via the practice software Halaxy. The Medicare Rebate is $141.85 hence the gap fee is $ 123.16.
Longer sessions will attract a longer fee.
Please note that my session fee is much lower than the recommended rate by the Australian Psychological Society, and is not negotiable.
My fee reflects my years of experience, investment in my training, the time, effort and dedication to your care that I bring to our professional relationship.
HOW LONG DOES A SESSION GO ON FOR ?
A standard session is for 50 minutes. If you require longer sessions (75 minutes or 90 minutes) or if we are doing EMDR Therapy this will be discussed with you.
DO YOU BULK BILL?
Unfortunately I am not able to offer any bulk billed appointments.
DO yOU WORK WITH THIRD PARTY PROVIDERS?
I do not work with third party referrals such as TAC, Worksafe, NDIS, DVA or VOCAT.
DO YOU HAVE A CANCELLATION POLICY/ NO SHOW POLICY?
I have a 24 business hour cancellation policy. The cost for a cancellation with less than 24 business notice is $100 for appointments and the no show fees are the full session fee of $265.01 cent
Please note there are no Medicare rebates available for late cancellation or no show fees.
The cancellation policy is in place as cancelling at the last minute means that you are delaying your therapy, that time could have been used by another client, it is time that the practitioner has lost preparing for your session and the practitioner still incurs business expenses such as paying room rent for the hour that was unfilled.
